10:37 pm - Violence

Lately, we were getting worried that Ignatius was starting to get violent.

He picked up the habit of boxing folks on the upper arm and on the head, kindly learnt from Gong Gong.
He also suddenly learnt how to "bang bang", with his fingers curled up into a pseudo gun.
He also screams shrilly, clenching his hands into balls of fury.
He throws things, sometimes at people, sometimes just aimless in fury.
Oh, yes, and he loves to nudge Cayden. Haha...

However, some happenings today kind of assured me that he is, at heart, a gentle peace loving soul. And that those previously mentioned displays of anger/violence are because he does not yet know how to express himself, nor control his emotions. It is, merely part and parcel of the growing up process.

He was at swim class today, and during the segment where the toddlers get to go onto the slide, Ignatius will climb out of the pool and queue up at the back of the slide, awaiting his turn. He doesn't push the toddler in front. Today, he did a make up class, and an older kid, pulled him away whilst he was climbing up the slide to go in front of him. Ignatius was shocked, but resumed climbing without any fuss. When he was on the slide platform, yet another older kid tried to squeeze past him. Ignatius, again, did not retaliate. I think perhaps if he was truly aggressive in nature, he would have screamed in protest?

Later in the day, we were in a shoe store. Ignatius was holding his newly bought Lofty, and attracted the envious eyes of many boys around. One in particular, about 3 years old, starting moving towards him, step by step. Our boy saw him, and started moving backwards, also step for step. This boy was aggressive, and his mom didn't seem to know how to discipline him. She allowed the boy to run up to Ignatius, and squeeze the daylights out of him, under the pretence of a hug. She said kind of helplessly to me "He's strong huh?" Fine, I let it pass, but my Ignatius was standing rooted to the spot, SHOCKED. I hovered protectively around, and Ignatius also said "kor kor scared" and patted his chest.

And AGAIN the mom allowed her son to squeeze Ignatius! I moved to separate them, seeing that she was just standing there. Then I saw the boy's mouth open, and tried to bite Ignatius' forehead! THAT set me off, and I separated them with as little force as I could, lest I also frighten Ignatius. The boy then proceeded to growl at the top of his voice, making Ignatius cry. I carried Ignatius in my arms, away from the menace. The mom, instead of disciplining her son, tried to convince Ignatius that her son was simply trying to be a dinousaur.

During this whole ordeal, Ignatius made no move to shove the other boy, nor fight back. Although I'm worried how he is going to learn to protect himself next time, I'm also happy that he isn't truly an aggressive boy.

I mean...just look at these photos taken today at the Jurong Bird Park...does he look aggressive to you? =) He looks just like Daddy!

hey, is that how Ignatius smile these days? that's exactly how Matthew smile when we tell him to. :p

Matthew also reacted the same way when older kids pushed himself aside for the slide at paragon. at paragon giordano, when an older kid pushed him off the car, took the blocks he was holding, he just continued playing as if ntg happened. Mike thot that he was too gentle mannered, get pushed ard. guess our kids dunno how to react at this age.
