2:06 pm - Back to School

It has been horrid. After being away from school for 1.5wks... he's back to square one.

On Wednesday, he didn't fuss when we put on his school uniform and told him we're going to school. The apprehension set in when we were nearing the school...how he knew, I have no idea! When Daddy drove past the school gates, he started crying and asking me to carry. Sigh.

We were a little early, so I accompanied him into the common area, hoping to say goodbye to him there. He cried, and wailed, and clung onto me like a Koala (I didn't even have to hold onto him), and screamed when any teacher came close. We were going nowhere. So finally, the principal took him from me, trying to distract him with his Cheerios and juice, and walked away to another corner of the school. I'm sure people a mile away could hear his screams.

I called up after his session in school ended, and they said he cried intermittently, and has found a favourite teacher. He's ok if she's around, cries if she's not. I'm glad he's able to attach to someone so soon. I think it helps with the transition.

So, his fav teacher is not around on Thursday, and the principal asked me NOT to send him to school as they are short handed. Most of the teachers will be away helping the older kids rehearse for their upcoming performance. Wow...does that mean Ignatius is THAT MUCH of a handful?

So comes Friday. He's even louder in his screaming, if that is even possible. No choice. Again I brought him in. And again he clings onto me. Even a packet of raisins did not help.
When I called the school this afternoon, the principal gently "reprimanded" me. She said I should have stuck to my previous routine of arrive, sign in, take temperature, wave goodbye and go off. I should not have walked in at all. It causes the child to think that if they cry hard enough, the parent will stay a while longer, and a while longer...

So alright...come Monday, it's just drop and go!
