Ignatius developed a low grade fever on Sunday. We gave him some paracetamol and hoped it would go down. However, come Monday morning, things didn't look any better. We decided to give school a miss, and let Ignatius stay at my mother in law's. He started his loose stools today.
By evening time, he was really warm. We thought it was time to make a trip to good old Dr Tan. Normally, Ignatius hates seeing Dr Tan, and would cry on sight of him. Today, he stared listlessly at him. Dr Tan, also had lost his voice, and it was a strangely silent consultation!
Ignatius' temperature registered 39.8 deg C. That frightened us, and we asked him to take his temperature again, this time the other ear. Same. Seeing our frightened looks, he said, well, his ear thermometer was sensitive and is prone to registering higher than actual temperatures. We think he was just trying to calm us down.
Anyway, the diagnosis was viral fever, and we were to administer Brufen upon getting home, and a suppository around 1am. Mommy was a bit lost, as we've never given Ignatius suppositories before. Oh well, we'd have to manage it somehow. The loose stools were supposedly because of the fever.
However, when we got home, Ignatius was really limp and hot. Very hot. We consulted Por Por and Aunty LM and decided to give the suppository first as I knew it worked faster. All we wanted to do then was bring down his temp. Ignatius did not even struggle when we lay him down, removed his diapers and popped in the suppository. Ah Yi was around, and made sure she sat as far away as possible!
Thankfully, the fever subsided and Ignatius broke out in a sweat about 15mins later. Gosh...Mommy could sure get addicted to suppositories!...although I hope we never have to use them again! He went to bed shortly, and thank the Lord, we didn't even have to wake him up to give him Brufen in the middle of the night. His temperature stayed normal the next day, and we decided to drop him off at my mother in law's for one more day. The loose stools persisted.
On Wednesday, we decided to drop him at school. He cried piteously. 4 days away had erased any progress we made during the last week. During the day, Mommy found out that Qistina had contracted Chicken Pox, and Cayden was suspected to have HFMD! And I remember he had trouble swallowing the day before. Gosh...! It was a quick call to check on Ignatius, ... *panic* However, he didn't have any spots, and his behaviour was back to usual, and he had no fever. We was only very cranky (he had just recovered, was tired and back in school). We hoped for the best.
It remained all clear, and it was to school on Thursday again. Cried buckets again. I thought I'd better warn the school to look out for any signs of him not wanting to eat, or more loose stools. Near lunch time, we received a call from the Principal. MORE BAD NEWS. They had 3 confirmed cases of the Norovirus. *panic panic* We were told to come over immediately and fetch Ignatius home as he too has a history of loose stools the past few days and may have contracted the virus as well. Mommy dropped her work and literally flew there! What a relief when I found a grinning Ignatius. He was even cheeky enough to walk right past me and look for the "Khoo Bah!"
Daddy also caught the viral fever that Ignatius had, and was down and out for about 3 days. Poor man. He got a massive sore throat as well. I guess that explained why Ignatius was unable to swallow when he had his fever as well.
Now, his stools have returned back to normal...but he's down with a cold which started around Saturday.
Sigh...I wonder when this will end. I blame it on the haze.
