9:51 pm - Evening at the Playground

My boy is growing up. The last time I brought him to the playground in the evening, I was still watching over him like a hawk, assisting him climbing up the steps and making sure no one bangs into him, and hanging onto him as he pseudo slides down the slide. Today, I got off work early again, and brought him down. What a different experience.

When we got to the playground, he got off to a running start, and immediately blended well into the small group of children playing Catch. All the same size and shape, all running equally wildly. Somehow, I wasn't too worried that someone would crash into him.

Previously, he would like to peer down the tunnel slide, but didn't dare to slide down. Today, he sat at the top like a pro, and DOWN HE WENT! I nearly fainted and tumbled down the slide myself. It was long enough that I could not hang onto him till he was at least half way down the slide. So, he pretty much slid down the slide BY HIMSELF! And to my great relief, he didn't fall backwards and hit his head on the slide while he was on his way down. Neither did he fall onto the fall the floor at the end of the slide. He stopped quite gracefully and turned his head around to grin cheekily at me, who was quite petrified, peering down the tunnel slide. After ascerting he was alright, I dashed down from the platform to join him. Needless to say, he went down that slide several times. But not the normal slides though. Only the tunnel one. Wonder why.

Previously, he would walk/run all over the place, especially up this really long ramp. The ramp had railings by the side. Today, the little imp ran to the side of the ramp, and climbed up, and manoevred himself over the rail to get onto the ramp! Monkey!
The older kids didn't have much patience with younger toddlers. That seldom changes. They kept telling him EXCUSE ME! EXCUSE ME! I duly moved Ignatius away to prevent them from steamrolling over him. I think the boy got a little tired of giving way. He went and told the older kids SHUSE! SHUSE! I was trying so hard not to laugh.

I really enjoyed my evening. My boy is really growing up. Maybe next time we go to the playground, he'd be playing catch with the other kids.

Well done, Ignatius!
Growing up fast.

Anyway, two days ago I was at a playground and saw a little girl who is slightly younger than our kids. Know what she did?
She was climbing up the slide barefooted. Climbed, slid, climbed slid. She is so agile.
Then she went to the monkey bar. She climbed up that too!
I am amazed.
Am I being too over protective of my gal? *wondering*
