During the afternoon, I surfed around, and found this website: Teaching Strategies.
By night time, we had 8 "flash cards". Like our inspirant, we did it in big capital font, and with 3 letter words he knew and was familiar with.
1. Bus
2. Car
3. Ant
4. Sit
5. Run
6. Cat
7. Dog
8. Eye
And by this morning, one more was added and pasted on the back of our front door : 9. Door
Daddy went through the 1st deck with Ignatius this morning during breakfast, and then Mommy reinforced while waiting for Daddy to change up to leave the house.
The result?
1. He knows his letter A, B, D and S.
2. He correctly identified CAR.
3. He could correctly identify B and S in BUS, with Mommy providing U.
4. He immediately goes "SIT" when he sees the letter S.
5. When asked to identify the word, he identifies the letters instead. So need to emphasise that letters make up a word.
This could prove to be fun! (for the parents at least) The challenge: In thinking up words!
