Was reading through the potty training section in What To Expect: The Toddler Years, and they too encourage learning through influence...namely, through reading books on characters using the potty.
So when we saw this at Kinokuniya... we grabbed it.
So...what has been the result so far?
After we bought the book, we read it to Ignatius (of course). Emphasis was on
1. BABY ernie, DIAPERS. BIG BOY ernie, PANTS and POTTY.
BABY ignatius, DIAPERS. BIG BOY ignatius, POTTY.
Well, we asked him, so is Ignatius baby or big boy? Reply: BAYBEEE!!!
2. repetition of ERNIE POTTY! when ernie want to ngeh ngeh (move bowels), ernie use potty. when ernie want to shee shee (pee) use potty.
Well, we asked him, Ignatius want to use potty? Reply: NOOOO!!!!
3. suddenly out of nowhere, Ignatius will yell "ERNIE!!!" and there was one time, he grabbed his diapered crotch and yelled "ERNIE!!!". we can only assume that he peed into his diapers.
so...we think he can understand what we are trying to do, but his stubborn rebellious nature will not allow us to have our way (potty train him) without a fair fight. just like with everything else we tried to get him to do. we'll just have to persevere...just like everything else. *wry grin*
