10:44 am - Post Aussie

Ok... so now the holiday pics are done. It's been 1 mth... So what have we been up to since we got back and how has Ignatius been?

Well, as mentioned before, he has grown taller, darker, more vocal. He has also developed a strong want to be carried everywhere! His childcare has also pointed this out, so it's going to be corrected soon!

He also came down with bronchilitis the 2nd week after returning to school. It is a constant battle we've been fighting since Aug 06, when he came down with his first bout. The Paed realised that we have not been using our Singulair as a long term med, but giving as and when he comes down with wheeziness. This was all corrected, and Ignatius is now on the Ventolin inhaler when he wheezes, and on Singulair daily for a mth to start with. Thus far, he's into his 3rd wk at school! This is all good news to us as it gives him an opportunity to truly settle down in school. Previously, he's always kept at home, sick, just as he adapts. Also, Paed says he's got a viral induced bronchitis/asthma... which should pass as he gets older. I'm hearing this "as he gets older" phrase so often, I've stopped wondering when "older" comes! He still has not gotten over his milk intolerance... which he should "as he gets older"...

He also started... being noisy. That's the best term I can come up with. If he's not singing (Twinkle Stars in both English and Mandarin, it's Baa Baa Sheep, or E-I-E-I-O!, or Hey Diddle Diddle, or Bob the Builder, or...), then he's screeching/humming this high pitch...tone (or noise for want of a better word!) as he goes about his play. He'll talk gibberish to himself, and he's even learnt to pretend play with himself! He'll move his trains around and talk to them, ... it's most amusing to watch!

Talking about trains, this boy is most fortunate. His wants sends his parents and grandparents into frenzy...looking for that elusive tank engine... or construction vehicle! His birthday is coming up... so let me list what NOT to buy! He's still into vehicles...including airborne ones!
Thomas and the Jet Engines (from the Take Along series)
Henry (also Take Along series...as are the other T the T engines!)
Percy
Edward
James
Gordon
Lofty (he seems to have lost this one at school...!)
Dizzy
Muck
Roley
Benny
Sumsy
Scoop
Bob with the key chain
Project Build it Factory with Talking Scoop

It has been fun to watch him play. He needs us less and less...and he's lost in his own world as he buzzes around joining and detaching tank engines, moving them along imaginary tracks on the floor/table/carpet... carrying them to and fro... It's nice to know that he's progress to another milestone where imaginary play is involved. I'd so love to see what he's imagining in his head!

As for updates from school, his teachers are quite pleased with his adjustment thus far. He's stopped crying in the mornings, and answers his teachers with short sentences. He's also able to tell them exactly what he wants, which is good as they spend less time guessing. I can only guess he's having fun in school, as he comes back each day with an update on which toddler is crying, and who spilt what during lunch, ... etc. I'm amazed he can remember all their names! Also, I'm seeing more and more chlorinated wet clothes, gold glitter in his hair, paint stained clothes, scrapes and bruises... so I'm guessing he's participating in the activities. His form teacher has also kindly taken some photos, and printed them out on printer paper and attached them in his communication book. I'm quite glad we stuck to this, and I'm even more glad that the meds have helped him...else he would have to be pulled out!

He's also developed a real attachment to his older cousin, who's about 6yrs old this year. I've started to stop asking... "where did he learn that from?!". I invariably see the older boy do the same thing, and realise the answer to my question. The backside jiggles, the dances where he goes from foot to foot like some football goal victory, the pulling down of the lower eyelids to expose the pink insides, the shrill yells... well... at least now I know who's the greater influence... School or Cousin or... PARENTS!

He's growing so fast, that we keep having to make little mental notes on his development to blog here...but his growth is outstripping the amount of spare time we have to update this blog! He's now 12.4kg, and 86cm by the way, just in case any clothes come our way during his birthday! Some shameless plugging! haha!

Watch out for our next post, where we promise to update with pictorials on what went on in the life of Ignatius! Ciao!
