10:48 pm - Down Under! Days 1 & 2

We've been silent so long...coz we were away in Perth visiting rellies! And what a trip it's been! We were apprehensive at first, bringing Ignatius overseas...I've heard enough screaming airplane baby stories to give me a lifetime of nightmares. But we went ahead, and we're thankful we did. Over the 8 days, we could actually see Ignatius grow physically and intellectually. We speculated it could be that he was exposed to many many things and hence his brain was stimulated, it could also have been that we were able to spend 8 x 24 hrs with him! He went from...

one word commands to one sentence commands

1 2 3 to 1 2 3 4 6 7 8 9 10! We can never get that "5" in.

no knowledge of first/second/third person to mastering "I". "I want to eat breakfast" "I want to bring Lofty to bed" "I don't want Mommy. Go away." "Kao Fu feed me ice cream" "I want to wear blue shoes!"

little shortie who on tippie toes couldn't reach the door handle to being able to turn our door handles and open doors at home now (probably time to start worrying about our grill-less windows now!)

a milk free diet to cookies and breads and cakes...with only some rashes around the mouth (although we'll stop them again for now lest the in laws get over zealous!)

There are probably others that we aren't tuned in enough to spot... but the most important thing is, we believe he really enjoyed the trip!

He loved spending time with Gu Po (my dad's sister) and his Biu Yi (my aunt's daughter). He loved the clean grass.
He loved the up close and personal sessions with the many different animals.
He loved the weather.
He loved the beaches.
He loved the juices and fruits and chips that Po Po kept feeding him.
He loved the attention that everyone showered on him (he's the first of the 4th generation).
He loved his new toys that Sok Gong (my dad's brother) gave him.
He loved the big house that Gu Po has.

Of course, for everything he loved, he hated equally many.

He hated the obnoxious HUGE flies. Gong Gong taught him to call them Notti Fly!
He hated sitting in the child seat for extended period of times.
He hated the cold cold water.
He hated sitting in the baby chair during meal times.
He hated bathing with a fixed shower head.

And, how about Mommy and Daddy? Daddy misses Perth. We miss the quietness of our surroundings, the wide open spaces, the large houses, the cool winds, the low humidity.

So enough of my ramblings...here are the pictures you've been waiting for!

1. When we first arrived at Gu Po's house, he wore slippers in the patio, but took them off to step barefoot on the grass. He loved the grass so much, he started rolling around! It was a lovely day. Clear blue sky, cool cool wind, sunshine aplenty!

2. Here's him eating his first cookie with butter and milk, and his "Got Soymilk?" poster pitch.

3. We spent the afternoon of Day 1 at Cottesloe Beach...Not sure if we have any photos. It was a cold cold gusty windy day and we were FREEZING. The water was freezing and Ignatius kept going "cold! cold!" when we tried to bring him in. So he ended up playing with sand on the beach, leaving the teens to brave the huge waves.

4. Day 2 was at Freemantle and Hillarys. Here are some random pictures taken at Freemantle, on our way to E-shed markets. I didn't think Freo was anything great... the Fremantle markets were so-so only as well. There were lots of seagulls though, and we video taped Ignatius chasing them around!

5. We had lunch at the famous Cicerellos. Ignatius was conked out from the rum ball he had a few bites from earlier at Fremantle market. This is aussie...they have real rum in their rum balls!

6. After Freo, we drove up to Hillarys. We did mainly shopping as we were too late to go to the AQWA. Here Ignatius had a strawberry sorbet...first of many on this trip.

Ignatius is at the right age to go! He will remember a lot of the trip. Matthew was only 13 mths when we went.
