11:41 pm - lab rat

We had fun with Ignatius over the weekend. We finally took out Edward the Blue Engine from our hidden stash of unopened toys. You must be wondering... SO???

To the untrained eye, Thomas, Edward and Gordon are almost identical. They are all blue with red stripes on their body. Ah... but upon closer inspection...
1. the number of wheels are different
2. the number of stripes are different
3. the boilers and funnels are different
4. the buffers are different
5. the noses are different
6. and Lord knows what else...
But the thing that got us the most excited, was the coal truck that Gordon and Edward pulls behind them. Gordon pulls the number 4 coal truck, and Edward pulls the number 2 coal truck.

As you all know, Ignatius still calls every colour red, and every number 4 (thanks to Gordon). We frequently ask him the colour of Percy/Henry/Roley, James/Muck, Thomas/Gordon/Edward/Lofty, Scoop, Dizzy, but the ONLY answer we get is RED.
So, now that we have the 2 almost identical coal trucks, we set to test if Ignatius did indeed know his numbers!

We initially mixed the coal trucks up, but we suspect that Ignatius knew the sequence by which they were shuffled around, and chose the correct coal truck to match the correct engine. However, when we did it when he wasn't looking, he didn't realise that he had Gordon's coal truck attached to Edward. That kind of crushed our hopes that he was Boy Genius!

Next, we pointed out the 2 different numbers to him. He stared at them for a while, and henceforth, he NEVER got the coal trucks wrong again. Not even if we attached the wrong one when he wasn't looking. So...he did recognise the different numbers after all! But STILL, the numbers are still "4"! This is so exasperating.

Daddy thinks he's being lazy. Doesn't wanna think, just whack the same answer again and again. I think he's just being his usual stubborn perverse self! Hahaha...maybe a bit of reverse psychology would work!
