When we reached at about 6.30pm, we heard sounds of about 1 million children screaming, and we saw sandpit after sandpit of playground equipment. Drats. It's the school holidays. No matter.
We first headed for the largest sandpit, and took Ignatius' shoes off for him to muck around in the sand. But upon reaching, we found the sand quite coarse, and painful on the bare feet. So we headed for those with the foam mat instead.
The area we came to had a nice see-saw, and wooden platform where some kids were pouring sand down from. We lowered Ignatius onto the mat, barefoot, and he stood there unmoving (body half bent, arms half raised), for about 5mins. Passers-by were quite amused to see the little person frozen there at the edge of the mat. Daddy thought maybe his delicate baby feet weren't used to the rough mat, hence we put his shoes back on. Still he didn't move. Then Daddy thought...maybe he's too overwhelmed by his vast new surroundings and hordes of running screaming children, so we grabbed a half raised hand each, and viola! Ignatius started walking up and down the ramp leading to the wooden platform.
We tried several of the other play equipment...but he is still a bit too young to grasp how to enjoy them. All in all, we spent about an hour there. Our little boy grew progressively quieter and quieter...so we figured he was getting tired. We went over to MacDonald's to have our dinner, and headed home after that.
It was nice evening spent out with our little boy. These days are too few and too far between. Now that Ignatius has become more independent, and prefers to walk rather than be carried, we often reminiesce "when he was still...". Dear little darling, Daddy & Mommy will try and make time for us to make memories like these. Promise.
