10:40 pm - Separation Anxiety

Over the weekend, Ignatius suddenly started having separation anxiety. He absolutely REFUSED to let Daddy or Mommy leave without him. He would cry and cling to us.
This phase usually occurs much earlier around 9~10 months...?...or so we thought. Wrong!

Around the age of 10mths, Ignatius actually went through this phase whereby he did not allow strangers to carry him. We thought that was separation anxiety. Now, we realise that it was more of stranger anxiety. According to BabyCentre, separation anxiety actually starts at 12mths...and usually goes on till about 18mths! Oh No! We've only just begun...!

As if to console us, the website goes on to say that "
Your son is feeling separation anxiety for a positive reason — his newfound intellectual and emotional maturity has made him aware of the unique happiness he feels in your presence." Right...and we're supposed to feel elated that we have a koala bear? Sigh...

Anyways, their method of dealing with this phase is not to tell them to grow up and snap out of it!...but rather offer understanding and comfort. Sounds logical...sounds good!
