9:53 pm - We went to the Zoo! 4 February 2006 Part one

After hearing Auntie Hani's and Auntie Lih Miin's wonderful experiences at our Singapore Zoological Gardens, we decided to make a trip there too!

Actually, it was an impromptu decision. The sky was grey and heavy with rain clouds when we left the house. During the drive there, it actually rained...but when we reached the Zoo, the weather was nice and cool and moist. We also decided to become Friends
of the Zoo! Now we finally know why people decide to take up membership.

Here's a map of the Zoo. Follow the pink circles to see where we went!

We started of at the entrance (of course) where the Otters and Barbary Sheep were. Didn't linger much. In the nice cool air, we carried on and soon came upon the Pink Flamingoes. Boy did they smell bad! Strangely enough, Ignatius was enthralled with them, and screamed when we hurriedly pushed
the stroller away.

We came upon the Gibbons, and it was feeding time. However, they were quite shy and swung away into the trees after grabbing their food. Too distant to capture Ignatius' attention.

So we carried on, and came the Polar Bear. The baby bear (baby in name, NOT baby in size!) was doing his laps in the pool and awarded Ignatius with countless close up encouters. We stayed here for a really long time as Ignatius ABSOLUTELY LOVED the bear. He couldn't stop saying "BARE BARE" and waving his arms around.

When we were finally able to move on, it was close to Ignatius' feeding time. Luckily, he did not attract as large a crowd as the Gibbons. We stopped at one of the air-conditioned shelters for him to have his milk.

After the short break, we came upon a bird he had made acquaintences with at the Underwater World.

The Cat Country was up next. We thought Ignatius would be very excited as he loves his daily evening walks to see "Mao1" (cat, in Mandarin). It was quite disappointing. The feline creatures were all having their afternoon siesta. Well, there's always next time!

We then carried on our journey and discovered that the zoo now has a Children's World Playland that has a waterplay area! We hurried past that area (Ignatius will never stop screaming to play in it!) and it started to drizzle. We carried onto Children's World Animal Land to take shelter while looking at the more domestic animals there. There were goats, miniature horses, cows amongst others.

At this point, Ignatius was getting pretty tired. So we grabbed a tram and headed home. We decided the zoo ain't that bad after all! ... and we'll be back soon! (we didn't realise how soon...!)
