3:04 pm - development...

if you recall from our past posts, we have been introducing Ignatius to the written word for quite a while. he hasn't quite caught the hang of it... he knows there are letters, each letter makes a sound, but i think it never quite clicked that TOGETHER, in certain arrangements, they make WORDS.

So last weekend, something went 'click' in his head. we were at sakae sushi (which we will never patronise again) and they have the hot water dispenser right next to the table. it is labelled HOT. we were afraid ignatius would play with it, and kept emphasizing that it is HOT. H-O-T spells HOT and it's HOT.

after that, he's been realising that letters together makes words! he'd flip to the end of a book, and go T-H-E E-N-D THE END! Mommy, this is THE END! i don't think he's using phonics, or anything like that, but recognising the pattern that the words make. memorizing if you will. but that's good enough for us! a nice step in the right direction!
