Was reading What To Expect, and again the importance of playing with building blocks was mentioned.
"Toys that help build small-motor skills"
"Toys that stimulate imagination"
"Toys that encourage discovery and interest in the physical world - that teach about how things work, about cause and effect, about numbers, shapes, patterns"
So...maybe we should get him some building blocks although all he likes to do is throw them.
We discovered a Lego fair and decided to buy him some bricks, and a mat...and of course, a bag. He loved the bag, and paraded around the room in it.
Sadly though, he didn't have a clue as to how to build his bricks.
He did do a good job of putting the bricks into the bucket though! *grin*
Again, trust Daddy to come to the rescue (Mommy didn't even try this time... *laugh*)!
This morning, as Mommy was getting ready for work, she heard sounds of
"Take out! Very good! Come Darling, can you put back put back? Daddy help you... *infectious laughter* Very good!"
I went and took a peep into Ignatius' room. Daddy and son were sitting on the playmat, building a "tower" with the Lego bricks, and dismantling it, and rebuilding, and dismantling...
I don't know how Daddy managed to make it so fun, but Ignatius was sure having a good time, and mastering his building skills at the same time.
And now and then, they would pretend that "tower" is a telephone receiver and "call" each other. Wow...Daddy incorporated Imagine Play too. Talk about Power Play.
Sigh. Ask me to feed, clothe, bath, change, put to sleep the little boy, but leave the fun to Daddy!
