Ignatius is NOT a picky eater. He's NEVER rejected food.
But for the 1st time last week, he refused to eat his greens.
Here's what happened.
Ignatius usually has his dinner around 5.30pm. It is a full adult-sized bowl of porridge with the usual suspects inside. At round 6.30pm, he will have his serving of fruit, either 1 plum, or half a peach, or half a papaya, or 1 banana. When Daddy & Mommy comes home, Ignatius gets to eat, AGAIN, at about 7.15pm. He will have his small portion of rice, and bits of chicken/veggie from the adults' table.
On this fateful day, the adults' dinner menu consisted of Xi Yang veggie (watercress) soup. So we put a bit on his spoon, together with his rice. He REFUSED to eat it, as communicated by a few quick shakes of the head, and a pull back action. He was willing to eat the rice and the watercress leaves separately, but NOT together. So weird!
Well, to be absolutely honest, the reaction Mommy had was "insistence".
Either eat that veggie together with your rice, or you'll go without both rice or veggie!
But after some tries...I realised the futility of it. If it takes feeding separately, so be it!
Let's hope this is not an endearing trend, but a on-and-off autonomy-asserting phase. Again, another sign that our baby boy is growing. He's into Autonomy and Independence now!
Hmm...so far, we've been playing "catch up" with Ignatius...learning about his different development phases as he moves into (and frequently out of) them. So, when Mommy spotted "What to Expect: The Toddler Years", she grabbed it! Let's see if we can be ahead of Ignatius for once!
